I love science fiction! It is the genre that allows us to explore the biggest ideas affecting society as well as how these things affect individuals. You can tweak the rules of the universe and investigate how that would change things, or you can just explore exciting new worlds and cool technologies. The sheer wonder of discovery you can get from a good sci-fi book is second to none. And there is nothing that a ‘general’ fiction book can do that sci-fi can’t.
And as one of my favourite authors once said; “When we talk about aliens, we’re always talking about humans”. Sci-fi allows us to hold a mirror up to ourselves; individually and as a society, and examine things from a safe distance, which can often be incredibly enlightening.
Some of my favourite sci-fi authors are: Iain Banks, Ursula Le Guin, James Tiptree Jr, Kurt Vonnegut and John Wyndham.

Science fiction is amazing. It’s a place that could take you anywhere and make you think about things in a way you didn’t before. I don’t think I could ever write it as poetically as Ed, but reading sci-fi is one of my favourite ways to learn about new theories and ideas! If you’re interested in sci-fi, definitely read any of Philip K Dicks stories!

Yes I do! I never really thought I did but actually I can categorically say that I do. I’m not a big fan of reading science fiction, but I do enjoy watching it a lot!
