• Question: How big is the universe?

      It’s big! I think current estimates put the diameter of the universe at around 100 billion light years – basically impossible to really imagine!

      As Eleanor said- really big! But it’s also getting larger all the time; and in fact the expansion of the universe is speeding up. We think this might be caused by the mysterious sounding Dark Energy.

      And as Douglas Adams said: Space is big. You just won’t believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it’s a long way down the road to the chemist’s, but that’s just peanuts to space.
