My least favorite part of my job is telling people bad news. Sometimes experiments fail, even with the best preparation. People put their heart into their work, and they don’t always get data that is good enough to answer their science questions. Oftentimes, scientists will ask me if I can help them work on their data analysis and I have to be the one to tell them that this beloved data, into which they have invested lots of hopes and dreams, is not going to be good enough. It can be a tough conversation to have.
